UN child replacement protection guidelines

15 Mar 2017
As part of the advocacy for the implementation of UN Guidelines for the Replacement Protection of Children in court decisions in Benin, the legal professionals of the Aplahoué Court learn the Guidelines that frame Alternative care for children.

The judicial staff and courtworkers of the tribunal of Aplahoué in the department of Couffo followed on Wednesday, February 22nd 2017, a training on the United Nations Guidelines for the Protection of Replacement for the children. This training, organized by the SOS Children's Village Dassa-Zoumé, is part of its advocacy activities for the year 2017. It took place in the compound of the court where some 20 magistrates, Clerks, and social workers followed various communications. It was an opportunity for the Programme Director to return to the principles of "necessity" and "adequacy", the contents of which were explained to the participants throughout the course. At the end of this training, a greater involvement of the court alongside SOS Children's Villages Benin was obtained in the best interests of the child.

The questions that the trainer was asked provided a more in-depth knowledge of the United Nations Guidelines for the Alternative Care of Children. The magistrates have seen how they are very useful in the practical implementation of these United Nations guidelines. The training ended with a presentation by SOS Children's Villages Benin, which in this year 2017 celebrates its 30th anniversary in the service of children in difficult situations and the development of the communities and the Beninese nation as a whole.
The president of the court said this: "SOS Children's Villages Benin is doing a useful work and gives children who no longer have a chance to live with dignity in their families, to develop in an environment where their rights are recognized and respected. This organization will be supported by the tribunal of Aplahoué so that the children are protected and that they can develop under the best possible conditions. I am happy for all these children and satisfied with your work." It was with these words of encouragement that the team of SOS Children's Village Dassa-Zoumé took left their guests.
