SOS Children's Villages Benin has one secondary school situated in Abomey-Calavi. The school is spezialised in arts and crafts: SOS Hermann Gmeiner Arts and Crafts Secondary School.

The Hermann Gmeiner Arts and crafts Secondary School is a technical secondary art school. It is not only a facility for initial art teaching but also a specialization place for arts and crafts. The school is recognized by the Ministry of High Education and Vocational Training of the Republic of Benin. It also gives further training in arts for artists in fine art and music. Finally, it performes recording and CD productions for artists. Hermann Gmeiner Arts and Crafts Secondary School has two options :
• fine arts
• music / dance

These options include several specialities:
• textile, decoration, design
• singing, instrument playing
• choreography

The global goal of the Hermann Gmeiner Arts and Crafts Secondary School is to take into account the cultural dimension of the development in Benin and in Africa.

Specifically, the aim of the school is to:
• provide a technical training in arts
• Train professionals who will be able to produce art objects and make services in order to meet functional and spiritual needs regards art.
• Give an education based on the exploitation of various technics and on the discovery of  artistic language
• Ensure the suitability between training and employment
• Promote a deep knowledge of African regions as far fine art, music and dance are concerned.
• Contribute to the protection and valorisation of african inheritage.

The school is composed of two degrees: 
• 1st degree: three years to get an Certificate in Sciences and Technics of Arts and Crafts
• 2nd degree: three years to get an A-Level in Sciences and Technics of Arts and Crafts.
 
There is a test before admission. This test is related to the pupil's motivation and artistic skills. The teachers are high experienced persons.

After attending SOS Hermann Gmeiner Arts and Crafts Secondary School, pupils can go to university to attend art classes.  They can directly work. For fine arts pupils, they can be:

• Designer,
• Model-maker,
• Decorator,
• Graphics designer,
• Sketcher,
• Textile technician,
• Graphic designer,
• Fine art teacher,
• Illustrator.

For music pupils, they can be:
• Sound technician,
• Technician of computer aided music,
• Chorus master,
• Instrumentalist,
• Composer,
• Music teacher
• Singer.

 The school has a computer room with permanent Internet connection and rooms for practice. School begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 2.30 p.m. There are dormitories in the school where children who live far away can stay.
